DGCA fined Rs 30 lakh on IndiGo for four tail strike incidents in six months

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has slapped a fine of Rs 30 lakh on IndiGo for four tail strike incidents in six months. The incidents took place at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi, the Pune Airport, and the Kolkata Airport.

A tail strike is an incident in which the tail of an aircraft touches the ground or another object while it is taking off or landing. Tail strikes can damage the aircraft and can also be dangerous for passengers.

The DGCA said that IndiGo had failed to take adequate steps to prevent the tail strikes. The airline had not properly trained its pilots on how to prevent tail strikes, and it had not properly maintained its aircraft.

The DGCA said that the fine was necessary to "ensure safety of operations". The airline has been given a month to pay the fine.

This is not the first time that IndiGo has been fined by the DGCA. In 2019, the airline was fined Rs 5 lakh for a bird strike incident.

Tail strikes are a serious safety issue, and it is important that airlines take steps to prevent them. The DGCA's fine on IndiGo is a reminder that airlines need to be vigilant in ensuring the safety of their passengers.
