No Plan To Extend Deadline For Exchange Of Rs 2,000 Notes, says Finance Ministry

The Finance Ministry has confirmed that there is no plan to extend the deadline for exchanging Rs 2,000 notes. The deadline is currently set for September 30, 2023.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes on May 19, 2023. The RBI said that the decision was taken to "curb the menace of counterfeit currency".

The RBI had also said that people would be able to exchange Rs 2,000 notes at banks till September 30, 2023. After that, the notes would no longer be legal tender.

The Finance Ministry has said that there is no proposal to extend the deadline for exchanging Rs 2,000 notes. The ministry has said that the deadline is "final" and that there will be no further extensions.

This means that people who have Rs 2,000 notes will need to exchange them at banks by September 30, 2023. After that, the notes will no longer be valid.

The Finance Ministry has said that it has taken this decision to "ensure that the legal tender character of the Rs 2,000 notes is not diluted". The ministry has also said that it wants to "prevent the circulation of fake notes".

The deadline for exchanging Rs 2,000 notes is approaching, so people who have these notes should make sure to exchange them at banks before the deadline expires.
